The resignations are thinning the ranks of Vietnam’s leadership caste. With Hue’s ouster, the number of Politburo members will be reduced to 13. Starting with Deputy Prime Minister and Politburo member Pham Binh Minh, who was dismissed in late 2022, five members have left in a little over a year and a half with no replacements as of yet.
