Thousands flee as cyclone barrels towards Bangladesh

Cyclones have killed hundreds of thousands of people in Bangladesh in recent decades, but the number of superstorms hitting its low-lying, densely populated coast have increased sharply of late — from one a year to as many as three — due to the impact of climate change.

Launch services suspended across Bangladesh

Due to the approaching cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ over northwest bay and adjoining area, the decision was taken, according to a notice issued by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority Saturday night. It said that movement of all launches across Bangladesh had been suspended for Sunday to ensure safety of people.
